William Selby was born in Yorkshire in 1933 and has become one of the most respected painters of still life and landscape subjects of his generation. He has been painting professionally for over 45 years and recognised as one of the leading ‘colourists’of his generation, and an important name in contemporary mainstream British painting.
William’s paintings scintillate with colour. Working with oils, acrylic and mixed media his landscapes and still life objects are characterised by the use of bold, bright paints, heightening the sense of depth and texture.
William’s confident and direct approach has resulted in a steady growth in reputation, and through exhibiting at all the principle venues, he has won critical acclaim and many major awards and fellowships. He is an elected member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Watercolour Society, The Royal Society Of British Artists, New English Art Club and The Royal Scottish Society Of Painters In Watercolour.
