Hargreaves’ work combines the painterliness and visual inventiveness of abstract painting, coupled with the tradition of hard-won observation.
His work has a feel of places fleetingly, yet vividly remembered. Characteristically his ambitious landscapes are often seen from an elevation of hundreds of feet, giving a sense of the landmass and its atmosphere.
He has featured on Sky Arts on a number of occasions and has had recently held solo shows in Oxford, Manchester and Stockport. Much of his work is privately owned most notably by several prominent collectors.
With a measured feel for line and composition, as well as a fresh painterliness, Hargreaves’s work is beautifully rich in colour. Each brushstroke seems carefully considered. Having recently exhibited at Oxford’s Northwall Gallery Hargreaves is definitely one to watch.”
